Midwives deserve better!

This book was joyful and equally heartbreaking. We as a country have a long way to go in making our midwives feel appreciated for the wonderful work that they do.

The things that Pippa went through were brutal. She did not deserve what happened to her, and this book is a true testament to how undervalued our midwives are.

Hopefully this book will inspire the change that is so desperately needed.

I enjoyed the birthing stories although some were very quick. I do feel this was a reflectective journal to help the midwife recover as she mentions in the book but felt for me (who wanted a story of babies rather then mental health) that there was too much of the mental health aspect.

This made me want more it this book could have been longer. It great to see real life experience and it wasn’t sugar coated at all. I wanted to cry at elements of this book the stillbirth and miscarriage stories broke me

This book is roughly divided into two parts, with the first showing us the beauty of being a midwife, and the second part showing how it's being made so much harder to do that job well. I'm grateful that the midwife in question recognised and shared the unequal structure of management vs practitioners, the unfair workload, which is highlighted in how management treats sick leave and nurses in general. Eye opening and important read for anyone who wants to get a look into the workings of the NHS and how it is changing over recent years.

Oh plus the narrator was fantastic at acting out the sounds of women in labour, very immersive and impressive while not being distracting.
