4 Stars. I love the Pickett books and this one was no exception. Other than being a little preachy politically, I guess. I get enough of that daily in this country on every news platform in existence.

Still, Joe and the gang were predictably enjoyable. The mystery was a good one and I can tell you it will be a quick little thriller to enjoy. Definitely ready for the next one.

This series continues to entertain.  This wasn't my favorite of the series, but it is still a solid entry.  I'm a fan and will be here for every book CJ Box writes.

Oh, my... I know when Joe Pickett is involved I will have anxiety from start to finish. CJ Box is a master of his art. This series is one I know well. I sweat out every time who might not make it out alive in the end. I tell myself repeatedly that Joe has to or there wouldn't be any more. That thought barely calms my nerves as I follow the twists and turns of his plots and Storm Watch was no different. I have enjoyed the quotes used. "It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it." -Aung San Suu Kyi, from "Freedom from Fear"
Excellent read.

4.5 stars.

This latest installment in the Joe Pickett series begins with a shocking discovery just as a spring snowstorm hits. Joe is trying to let the sheriff do his job, but he is frustrated by the lack of urgency by local law enforcement. When the feds get involved and Joe is warned to stay out of the investigation, will he let things go?

Nate is trying to rebuild his falconry business when his new friend proposes they go into bitcoin mining together. Nate is also approached by a local group that is part of a secessionist movement. While he is intrigued by some of the ideas, Nate is not convinced he wants to become involved.

This terrific outing finds Joe relying on his wife Marybeth and daughter Sheridan as he tries to uncover the truth about what is happening nearby. He is also uncertain about the fate of his friendship with Nate when his friend toys around with the ideas presented to him by extremists. Joe is in the crosshairs of powerful people as the pieces of a troubling puzzle begin to fall into place. This newest mystery is sure to be a hit with old and new fans of the Joe Pickett series.
