This is a dense and challenging book that is very much worth reading. Jacoby pinpoints several reasons that American has declined into anti-intellectualism, mainly fundamentalist religion and shortened attention spans due to tv/social media/junk information. Illuminating and very timely, it may be my favorite non-fiction book of the year.
