Mel annoyingly rode that strong Black woman persona into the ground. Her experience becoming a single mother hardened her, but I don’t think the book fleshed it out enough to account for why she was so hard on all men–especially Nolan, who we find out has always been obviously soft for her. Even with her signature prescription glasses, she couldn’t see that her unrequited crush was anything but. If it wasn’t for her BFF (Lexi) pushing her out of her comfort zone, the connection with Nolan would’ve never evolved.

I just wasn't really into this one. It all felt too forced between Mel and Nolan. The last minute problem to put them together was just too...hail Mary.
