Where to begin? R.L. Stine has created a tense and suspenseful town, that certainly brings fear to it's readers. Fear Street: The Beginning brings us four stories that a cleverly interwoven in the town of Shadyside, as each story centres around either Fear Street, Fear Street woods or Fear Island. Each story is told by a different character, however R.L. Stine has managed to interweave each character into each other's story somehow, whether it is at a party, at Shadyside High School, or the characters are friends; this gives the town more depth; making the story of the small town realistic.
The New Girl ⭐⭐⭐.5 - this was a thrilling start to the Fear Street series. However, the ending of The New Girl was not as good as the start.
The Surprise Party ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 - this kept me on the edge of my seat when I thought it was going to go one way it went the other way. And that ending was very unexpected. This was a solid 4 stars until that ending, that ending earnt another half star to this read. A tense read, and my favourite Fear Street story thus far.
The Overnight ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - all that can be said it was tense and suspenseful. The ending was again unexpected!
Missing ⭐⭐⭐ - probably my least favourite of the four stories. Compared to the first three stories in the Fear Street series, Missing felt rather dull, and it lacked something. The build-up was poor and there was no tense or suspenseful feeling the other three stories had. Although the twist at the end was interesting, Missing just did not hit the spot.
Overall, Fear Street: The Beginning was a great start to the Fear Street series, I look forward to carrying on reading this series!
