UGH. I want to like it. But he just goes around saying blech for most of the book. Storytime audiences might enjoy it. Yet I feel like if I can't support it, I won't translate/read it well. So I'm not doing this one for Valentine's Day either

The art style was cute. Everyone knows that cranky person that hates Valentine's Day. The ending left much to be desired.

Not liking Valentine's day is played off as "cranky," but someone kisses the kid without consent on the bus, so it makes sense why the kid might dread this holiday. They also have to dress in a cupid outfit when they don't want to, etc. Just a lot of problematic things happen for the kid. Like, if a kid hates a holiday, maybe there's a good reason?

Valentine's Day is almost here. Personally, it's never been my favorite holiday. This book gave of vibes I feel about the holiday, so I decided to give it a read. It's about a little boy who can't stand Valentine's and hate being forced to partake in the holiday with all his happy classmates until he finds someone else who can't stand Valentine's Day, too. Overall, it is a cute story about finding friends who are like-minded and that it's okay not to be happy about every holiday.

Even the crankiest monsters have hearts in this Valentine tale from fan favorite author Samantha Berger and Caldecott medalist illustrator Dan Santat.

Cheesy cards, allergy-inducing bouquets, and heart-shaped everything? YECHHHH! It's enough to turn anyone into a monster! An ordinary kid becomes Crankenstein on the most lovey-dovey, yuckiest day of the year: Valentine's Day. ...

A cute story about a kid who is not a fan of Valentine's Day. I really enjoyed the twist at the end.The thing I really liked about this book was the illustrations. The text focuses on how Crankenstein is feeling, but the illustrations foreshadow other events in the story. Great detail. A fun and silly book that is very entertaining.

This book would of almost been better if there was no dialogue. The artwork is phenomenally adorable (where the 3rd start comes from), but the story provides nothing that will stick with you.
