This graphic novel had a seriously GORGEOUS art style, one of the prettiest I’ve ever read. The panel composition was also spot on. In terms of plot/character, it was really therapeutic watching Willow learn how to manage her emotions.

There were three things I didn’t like that bumped down my rating. The first is that this book is aimed at kids, though the way emotions are depicted for most of the book is a little abstract, so I think a MG audience would be more suitable. Secondly, I didn’t like the impression it gave that some emotions are good and some are bad. Finally, the composition and narrative did come to be a little repetitive.

I love the way this book talks about angry and sad emotions.  It's a very sweet story and I instantly loved the characters.

A beautiful little book about dealing (and not dealing) with difficult emotions. Whimsical and cute.

This middle grade graphic novel about a young girl dealing with the loss of a parent, understanding friendship, bullying and big emotions is absolutely stellar.

I loved the cute art and moving story, but it’s truly Nguyen’s sensitive and compassionate handling of grief and navigating volatile emotions that make this a must-read for all ages. I adored the complexity of the friendship between Willow and Pilu, the mental health representation, the nature analogies, especially the mushrooms, and Willow’s growth throughout the story. I can’t recommend it enough.
