This was so sweet and cottagecore-y, I wasn’t expecting to actually tear up!! This did an amazing job of talking about the problems of bottling up feelings and never expressing them in healthy ways. I wish we’d gotten to see Pilu’s mother in a human-ish form like Pilu. The art style is adorable and the page after page of woodland and plant scenes were just so soothing to look over.

"I don't really think things can just disappear...Just 'cause you cant see it, doesn't mean its not important...doesn't mean it's gone. That's how it is in nature."

This was such a sweet story! Beautiful illustrations and a really emotional plot.

After and argument with her big sister, Willow runs away to the woods. Here she meets Pilu, a lost tree spirit, and they explore the woods together.

The messaging in this story was so lovely. Willow is forced to face her 'monsters' and work through some really difficult emotions. Pilu doesn't want to go home, but Willow is determined to help her find her way back. Both Willow and Pilu are able to draw from each others' experiences and help one another find a solution to the problems they are facing. Showing these conversations and events is so powerful - it's so important that young readers (and young people in general) see that talking about their feelings can be a massive help if they are struggling with something!

I really enjoyed this, honestly can't believe how emotional it made me! Would definitely recommend.

I received an e-copy of this graphic novel for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Love love love! Great message and beautiful story. I really love the way the sounds of the forest are illustrated into the pictures.

I absolutely love the illustrations. I’d say this is aimed at elementary aged kids. Because of that the message is definitely in your face, but it’s still a great message.

De tekenstijl is heel cute en het einde was mooi, maar ik moest best wel inkomen in het verhaal. Toch is het verhaal wel reflectief en zet het je aan het denken.
