Her being the sin eater's daughter seemed to have very little to do with the book.

It was better than I expected after seeing all those DNF Goodreads reviews. The middle chunk of it was the best for me, and maybe the very beginning. It was quite predictable but I like the story and will likely be continuing with the story.

This rating and review will probably be one of the most difficult of the month.

I came into this book wanting a story . I was ready to soak. I was ready to tune out reality and devour this book. And you know what? I did.

I'm not saying there weren't a few hiccups here and there, definitely were a few but, the world building was so nice. The characters were there and obvious what role they played... or did they? There were twists and turns, mysteries and secrets, lovable & hate-able characters-- I just adored this book.
The plot was seriously great. I loved how things went. My mind was all over the place guessing at the end so, I kinda had it as one of my possibilities. Was still enjoying the book the whole time.

At the same time, I ended the book completely frustrated. I love it as much as I want to scream at it. I don't even know if this book should be tagged as a favorite or not. So, I should probably dive into those.

-I have a problem with how gullible Twylla is in the book. Looking at it as a character trait, I can deal with it easier. Just because she is clever at times doesn't mean she is smart... even though it is a bit shown that she is...

-The ending... I just... I ugh. Okay, let me explain don't worry, no spoilers . I liked the turn of events and how everything worked out.
I did think the epilogue was a bit confusing when it didn't need to be.
My biggest problem, probably with the whole book which is what lowered my rating, is that I didn't realize this was the end of Twylla's story. I was ready to read more of her adventure and she what she did but.... no. Ughhhhh I don't like series that don't follow the same main character-- well okay, correction I don't like it sprung on me especially when it is this kind of high fantasy.

So, after groaning about no more Twylla *sad face* then doing my volunteering at the library, and eating dinner, I finally sat down to write this review and my feelings have leveled out. Will I miss those characters? YES #TeamLief But, I'm ready for Errin's story and the continuation of this weird world.

Recap:
*Characters: Love'em.
*World&Magic: Very interesting and I'm ready to learn more!!
*Romance: Yes... love triangle... I'm sorry but BUT I don't hate them. When not overdramatic, I can enjoy them. In this case, I loved the romance and it doesn't feel too much like a love triangle when the love obviously isn't reciprocated. So romance: HUGE CHECK! Lief & Twylla were lovely.

Since I received The Sleeping Prince (The Sin Eater's Daughter #2) as a goodreads giveaway, I'll be reading that soon which, I'm excited about.

RECOMMEND: YES! Please go read this and talk about it with me. Totally under-hyped.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand The Sin Eater's Daughter was too slow paced and for a long time nothing seemed to be happening in the middle to advance the plot and it sagged a bit with the romance being the emphasis. On the other hand that whole part in the middle where nothing seems to happen to advance the plot is a bit deceptive, and there are a couple of nice twists, nothing that an astute reader couldn't figure out, but still they worked nicely within the story.

I think I would have liked this book better if it had not been written in first person. It's so overdone in YA fiction, as well as the emphasis on the romance, and love triangles (yes there is a triangle of sorts). This being in first person meant that we were unable to get into the queens head and find out what is behind her actions. She just seemed mean and evil just for the sake of being that way. There is very little explanation given for her actions until the end, and thinking she was cursed just isn't good enough.

Twyla, the protagonist whose point of view is the only one we get felt like sort of a weak character, as her actions are propelled by others throughout the story, but at the same time it made sense within the story that was being told. Finally at the end she is able to actually make a choice all on her own and I liked her for it. That has made me want to find out what potential she could have in the next book.

soooo.... this book has been on my tbr shelf for YEARS. Not kidding.
Probably bought it when it was released, hadn't touched it since. I always felt bad for reading other books instead. However, now I've read it I don't feel so bad anymore.

It is not a bad read, it is quite alright. But that is about it. It is alright. Not great, not bad... just an okay read.

DNF at 35%

Gaaah I'm so devastated by this! I wanted to love this so bad but I didn't. This sucks. =( The first 15% or so feels like a history book and it was boring! You know, at first it was interesting, but then all the info-dumping was boring to me. Then the romance starts, sort of. And it gets all insta-love-triangly. *sob* I'm sorry, this is just not for me. I think others will enjoy this one, but I just didn't and it breaks my heart because I wanted to love this one so bad! I got a gorgeous physical ARC from the publisher and it sounded so fantastic. Unfortunately it didn't work out for me.

I really enjoyed the first book of this new series. It's a unique spin on destiny vs choice. The heroine is flawed but quite lovable; I adored her immensely. While it does have a love triangle, it wasn't bad. Can't wait for the second book.

I recommend this one to any Mature YA/Fantasy fan.

Sped through this! Action packed with romance subplots and a great twist. I thought the writing was really accessible adding to the fast pace of the book. Would definitely say the second half is wayyy better than the first!
