Clever short story, as over the top and full of literary allusions as always.

It's not really a book, but a short story in Guardian (can be found here). I think I just love everything he does... So far anyway. Really enjoyed this, especially since locked room mysteries (by John Dickson Carr/Carter Dickson) used to be my favorite detectives. I don't read detective stories much anymore, I kind of overdosed myself on Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr/Carter Dickson when I was around 10-12. But I definitely recognize the tropes!

I think I liked the idea of this short story more than I liked the short story itself.

Couldn't sleep and came across this short story by a favorite author. Entertaining for what it is...

How had I missed this short story until now? This is a fun and Ffordeish take on the tropes of murder mystery stories. It's short and sweet and very funny. Ideal for brightening up a gloomy afternoon.

Jack turned back to Red Herring. "Who else was in the house at the time?"
Herring thought for a moment and counted the guests off on his fingers: "There was myself, Unshakeable Alibi, Cryptic Final Message, Least Likely Suspect, Overlooked Clue, and the butler, Flashback."
HA! Super short (6 pages) but fun and, despite the length, is every bit as quirky and wacky as his novels. (speaking of, is the third book ever coming out??)

A fun short story used to keep the author in the news and fill the pages of a newspaper at Christmas time. Worth the read but not as good as a full book.
