A short story worth its Caine prize win. Fresh and subversive take on what it means to be a single woman in a society that values marriage

Recent winner of the 2019 Caine Prize for African Writing, this is an audacious and intriguing short story that speaks poignantly to the state of womanhood in much of the world today. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer - the story seems to just stop, and I wanted to know more about the character of Ejem.

For those interested, here's a link to the entire story - can be read in about 30 minutes, and well worth your time: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/565c3d39e4b027c789ba5b70/t/5cdc37b30d9297fa8c39b06b/1557936053724/Skinned_+By+Lesly+Nneka+Arimah.pdf

I really enjoyed this short story, its such an interesting commentary on how society views women and their body autonomy in relation to men and marriage and women's relationships with each other due to this.
