Seriously, these are hard to read. And depressing. But seeing as more and more Meta Humans, aka superheroes and villains, find out what's going down, and make some decisions about it, the more I get addicted. As sad as this is, as hard as it is to read, I love it. And I can't stop reading. Time to look for number 4! :)

What I Loved

The opening scenes. Since CW’s Arrow series, I haven’t been too fond of the “intended” Black Canary. Frankly, I so preferred the sister over Laurel Lance, but anyway, digressing. To get back to the point, the opening panels threw us into a flashback of an outing with Dinah Lance, Oliver Queen, and Hal Jordan. Then, fast forward to the present and we find out Ollie’s six feet under. Tragic, but already poignant opening for the year of agony for those against Supes’ regime. It’s here and in the Justice League Unlimited series where I truly respected Black Canary as Black Canary. So yeah, I loved this bit.

Superman’s “Mr. Chips to Scarface” alteration. Yeah, he broke bad. He so did. In fact, Superman’s doing well as an unhinged megapower whose restraint has frayed due to the influence of the fear-ruling Sinestro and the badass demi-goddess of war, Diana. Since he’s practically incapacitated his bestie, the next universe is the limit to Supes’ regime.

The Birds of Prey. GIRL POWAH. No, seriously, I love all of them.

The artwork, duh. Um. It’s pretty. Just sooooo pretty. That’s really all I can say.

What I Didn’t Love

Go away, Sinestro, nobody marks you. I didn’t want a rehash of how Sinestro broke bad. I didn’t care. In fact, my amount of care about Sinestro’s Green Lantern Corps problems goes about as far as I can throw a planet the size of Earth. Oh, wait.

Too short, darnit! It was way too easy to get through the entire volume within an hour. Not enough. Five issues only?! Really? And both Batman and Wonder Woman are incapacitated, so we’ve totally lost half the fun that I got when I was reading Year 1. But I suppose Hal Jordan’s moral dilemmas were also fun to read in this volume.

Always fucking awesome. More Batman and less Green Lantern would be great, though. Oh, and Superman? I'll never forgive you.

This has no right being this good.

You have to read this as an elseworld and oh boy are the costume designs awful BUT it’s strongly character focused and has a lot of fun exploring it main (silly) idea.

Who knew it could be so easy to start detesting Superman?

I continue to enjoy the hell out of this series. I didn't like this one quite as much as Injustice: Gods Among Us, Volume 2, but that's probably just because we had more Sinestro and Green Lantern here, and less Harley Quinn and Batman. I know where my priorities lie.

Seriously, though. I don't have much to say about this, other than how much I enjoy reading the series. I write down quotes I like after I finish something, and I basically quoted everything Black Canary and Green Arrow said in their flashback scene because they're the best. I really must look up more of what Tom Taylor has written. I've never had any real desire to read Green Arrow before this series, but if I found out Taylor's written any comics for him, I'm buying that shit.

Conclusions: A lot of fun. And . . . possibly Tom Taylor's never been a huge Kyle Rayner fan?

Pretty good. This is definitely my favorite type of Superman. Seeing how far he will go in his nearly infinite power down the path of compromise is very interesting.

The whole thing about Superman is that he’s too powerful. What’s to stop him from taking over the world? These books answer that: pretty much nothing.

This is a tie-in to a Mortal Kombat-style video game. It shouldn’t be this good, yet it is. In fact, it’s better. This is, hands down, the best DC title I’ve read this century.

I don’t know how Taylor has managed to make boring and/or annoying characters like Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner interesting, but he’s done it. That by itself would be impressive. The fact he can also take one-note evil Sinestro, whose very name is ludicrously evil, and turn him into a compelling schemer is amazing.

It helps that this is basically an Elseworlds story, so he can break continuity as he sees fit. If the regular DC universe we’re allowed to play by these rules, it’d be awesome. So would Marvel, come to that. A crossover with actual stakes? Where main characters can die?

This like superhero Game of Thrones. So good.
