Ah...it's such a relief that this was very good. To be honest I was nervous about this one because I really disliked Dean's last book, Quicksilver but The Big Dark Sky had a very frightening premise and heaps of tension, great characterisation and more importantly, a decent, satisfying ending, phew!

I've put this book down so many times and each time I've tried picking it back up, it just wouldn't keep my attention. There's so many different POVs that make it feel muddled and just hard to piece together. All of the characters aren't interesting, and their storylines are very half-heart

I first read Watchers as a teenager and loved it. But it's been many many years since I read a Dean Koontz novel. This is not the book that would make me want to go back to reading his stories on a regular schedule.
This book, for me, was filled with awkwardly worded passages I wanted to take a red pen to and rewrite, too many characters who added nothing to the story, and a build up to an abrupt ending that left me disappointed.
Maybe I'll reread Watchers.

Very impressed with this book, tautly written page-turner with credible, well-drawn characters. I’ve read some of Koontz’s novels in the past and they’ve been dreadful so very surprised with this - he’s obviously attended writing school.

This book feels in many ways like a return to Koontz at his best — it is a weird and fascinating amalgamation of horror, thriller, science fiction, and fantasy. The writing is fabulous and vividly evocative. But one star off for the many deaths and the huge buildup to one of the least interesting and most anticlimactic resolutions ever.

I tried to listen to this on audiobook and I just couldn’t get into it. There are way too many characters to keep track of. I got halfway through the book and nothing was making sense.

Wasn’t disappointed! - kinda slow at times but it picked up at the end.
