Only His

Seeking new professional challenges, Nevada Hendrix applies for a position as site manager on the new construction project in Fool's Gold, only to learn that the boss is none other than Tucker Janack, the man who broke her heart ten years before. After agreeing to a strictly business relationship, Tucker and Nevada soon realize their folly, but can they overcome the problems of the past and have a future together?

Each of the three romances depicted in this novel has its merits and its drawbacks.

Nevada and Tucker's story is the most prominent and they have great banter and chemistry. The fact that they actually have adult conversations rather than behaving like angsty teens is a big bonus. Unfortunately, the inclusion of Caterina into the equation adds an unnecessary air of ridiculousness to the plot. Nevada's patience and weird affection for her are incomprehensible given the events of the past.

The two rekindled love affair between Denise Hendrix and Max Thurman is charming; however, its development was lacking, especially considering the hints of a conflict in the previous book. This never materializes and Denise's minor
Spoilermeltdown over Max's proposal
comes across as silly and childish.

Finally, the romance between Jo Treliss and Tucker's best friend, Will Falk is wonderful until he behaves like a complete jackass. He apologizes and gives a lame excuse for his behavior, so everything in unrealistically hunky-dory. Not convincing at all.

Despite these issues, the book is entertaining and I look forward to continuing with the next mini-trilogy in the series.

Gone Pecan

Book six in the Fool’s Gold series by Susan Mallery, Only His is Nevada’s story. Nevada is looking to make a move away from Hendrix Construction, where she’s always worked. She gets the opportunity when a huge new development comes to town, courtesy of Janack Construction. Nevada jumps at the chance to prove herself, despite her past with Tucker Janack, who was her first…everything. But she’s surprised when she shows up for her interview to find Tucker there instead of his dad, so she storms out and refuses the job. This leaves Tucker and Ethan, Nevada’s boss & brother, scratching their heads. But Mom Denise swoops in and saves the day, convincing Nevada to take the job (but not before exacting a little revenge on Tucker, he he he).

Nevada’s issues with Tucker stem from a very bad first time they indulged in when Nevada attempted to mend Tucker’s broken heart after his charismatic and magnetic girlfriend, Cat (a famous sculptor), breaks up with him. Tucker was stinking drunk at the time and called out Cat’s name. So Nevada is understandably disconcerted and hurt. So Nevada hasn’t seen either of them in ten years and Tucker has sworn off love because he believes it isn’t worth all the pain and heartache it will inevitably bring.

Well, guess who shows up in Fool’s Gold wanting to be friends with Nevada? None other than Caterina herself.

Cat’s interest in Nevada is unexpected because I was certain she would be more interested in Tucker. But apparently, once she’s finished with a toy, she doesn’t like to play with it anymore.

Meanwhile, in the background of Tucker and Nevada’s story are several smaller, thoroughly entertaining stories involving Denise and Max, the planning of Dakota and Montana’s wedding(s), and the enigmatic Jo, Fool’s Golds’ bar owner.

I have to admit that Nevada seemed to be the least interesting of the triplets and, even though I was looking forward to the book, I didn’t expect to like it as much as, say, Montana’s book. But I really liked Nevada. She was smart and funny and tough. I liked Tucker, too, even though he was kind of a moron in respect to Nevada and not realizing the extent of her feelings for him. And the auxiliary stories are very satisfying. I also enjoyed the introduction of the next set of heroines for the books coming out in summer, 2012. They seem like they’re going to be fun to read about, as they’ve all reached the conclusion that men are idiots. :) Can’t wait to see who changes their minds.

Pecans: 4/5

Only His is the sixth book in the Fool’s Gold series. I love this series Susan Mallery just has a way with words and she just brings so much to the story. I really enjoyed getting to see Nevada and Tucker find their way.

Sappy but nice. Too much description on the bedroom scenes but overall, good depth of characters, and enough characters to keep it interesting.

This book had three love story perspectives- Nevada, Jo, and Denise. I enjoy these books because it always works out for them. Luckily, Nevada didn't need to get pregnant. I felt like she had more spunk which I appreciated. Cat was a strange element to it. I am not sure the purpose of having her. I knew which three were going to be written about next before I even read the epilogue.

I love these books but they all have the same ending!! The girl(or guy) professes their feelings then the other runs away only to come running back. Even Denise Hendrix!

Never agree to a job interview in which the interviewer has seen you naked.

That wonderful piece of advice above is the opening line of the story of Nevada and Tucker. Nevada is the only one of her sisters that hasn't found love yet. Dakota has Finn and Montana has Simon. Nevada isn't jealous but she wants something important in her life, too, so she goes after a job she really wants. The boss just happens to be the man who took her virginity. I thought that Nevada and Tucker were great together. I really liked the fact that they were in the same business because it made them able to understand the life and schedule of the other. But, I just think they fit well. They brought out the good in each other, especially with regards to Nevada doing so for Tucker.

I greatly enjoyed the two secondary romances, and I'm glad that neither took away from the main story about Nevada and Tucker. In fact, they contributed to that relationship.

1. Denise & Max. This relationship has been a point of focus for the past couple books and I'm glad to see that they finally got it all worked out in a way that works for both of them. Even if Denise did have a freak out.

2. Jo & Will. These two were just too cute, and I am so glad that they were able to work through the problems they developed. I think, though, that I'm most happy about this relationship because we finally learned Jo's secret past! It's been taunting us way too long. And for my part, I was really hoping for the Mafia princess one. Too bad for me, though *sigh*

The one thing I didn't care for in the book was Cat. She's arrogant, self-centered, and fucks people royally to get what she wants. And while she was a "better" friend to Nevada this second time around, I just couldn't shake my opinion of her from her past with Nevada and Tucker.

Now, we know that there is going to be at least three more books in the Fool's Gold world, and I cannot wait for those. And, with as much page time as they got in this book, I'm pretty confident that the next three will be about Charlie, Annabel, and Heidi. And maybe the remaining Hendrix brothers? I can see Kent with Annabel. Maybe Ford and Charlie? I guess we'll see...

I really loved the triple wedding aspect at the end. It made me think of one of my favorite TV movies, Wedding Daze.

It's about a family with three daughters who all get engaged around the same time and decide to have a triple wedding. Sounds just like the triplets, eh?

I loved this book. My favorite of the triplets is still Montana, but I loved learning more about Nevada and watching her fall in love. I eagerly, and impatiently, await the next three books of the series.

Another Fool's Gold romance that captures your heart. A strong woman. A stubborn man. A model- like ex- girlfriend, with a bit of a surprise. Tucker fights his feelings for a long time, but just cannot resist Nevada.
Gotta say I think the ending - the triplet part - was a bit much for me. Nice in theory, but a little cheesy no?
