Hauntingly sweet and chilling, like a graveyard echo. The complexity of each richly developed narrator provides exquisite insight into the humanity of EVERY player in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Siméon’s insights towards the very end are intense and incredible, as well as Cornelius’s ultimate journey towards the acceptance of his legacy in regard to the genocide. This land of a thousand hills sings with a different sound of music, but it is a dirge that demands to be echoed in the hearts and minds of all—the people who turned away and the people who could choose to make these mistakes again or listen to the history inked in blood in the earth around them. I do not simply mean women and men of Rwanda. Don’t deny the truth because you are afraid of it.
Graphic: Body horror, Child death, Genocide, Gun violence, Hate crime, Racial slurs, Racism, Rape, Sexual violence, Torture, Violence, Blood, Grief, Mass/school shootings, Murder, and Injury/Injury detail
