In all honesty, for the first 1/4 of this book, I was regretting my decision to read a novel written ENTIRELY in the format of lists, but from then on, I started to appreciate and enjoy the format. Interestingly, the format did allow for character formation and plot development in subtle ways I did not expect, and it made for a quick, entertaining and humourous read. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something a little different from your standard prose!

Wow. I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. This book is told exclusively in list format, so I thought it’d be a quick read with little plot and depth. Boy was I wrong! Not only was there a substantial plot, this book was emotional, hysterical, and REAL. I laughed, I cried (sobbed), and I thought about things in a different way. I am truly floored by Mathew Dick’s ability to turn a series of lists into such a heartwarming story, and am touched that he is a teacher in real life. What a talent. The book was therapeutic for me, as the narrator deals with constantly comparing himself to others’ success, which is something I personally have a really hard time with. Would definitely recommend this to my fellow rom com lovers and those interested in a unique storytelling format.

What I think about this book:
1. Fun to read a story in list format and it works well for a light-hearted novel
2. A quick read
3. The conflict is stupid (something that could easily be resolved by TALKING TO EACH OTHER)
4. Sometimes funny
5. Sometimes annoying
6. Totally agree with Dan's views on books and authors (the [b:The Alchemist|18144590|The Alchemist|Paulo Coelho|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1466865542l/18144590._SY75_.jpg|4835472] is dumb)
7. I will have forgotten I read this book two months from now

My only goal for 2023 is to get more in touch with my life. That’s what this book feels like.

Like this book is about a man who has a serious issue with his wife leaving CLEAN clothes in a hamper and it’s seriously making me angry how many times it’s mentioned… GET OVER IT! Or at least talk to your wife about how much it bothers you. FUCK! lol

The only thing that makes this book not 1 star are the side characters

Dan quit his job as an educator to open up a bookstore. This move isn't panning out quite as well as he had hoped, but he's afraid to tell his wife, Jill, about the reality of their financial situation. Then Jill gets pregnant and Dan gets desperate.

This novel is told entirely in lists. This may seem odd at, but you get into the flow of it pretty quickly and it makes for a unique storytelling approach.

This book is full of loveable characters (except fucking Kimberly!) who get you to laugh and cry, sometimes simultaneously.

I was really disappointed in the last Matthew Dicks book I read (Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend) so I'm really glad my local bookseller forced this one on me.

I LOVED this book! I am a sucker for any and all types of unconventional storytelling, and I thought the lists were brilliant. This book really surprised both in the plot and how much I was able to take away from the book. Plus, the ending was just perfect. 5 stars!
