this was such a sweet little love story. i’ll be it a little predictable at times, but a total delight to read. as a fellow chronically ill girlie, i really resonated with Evie, and appreciated the way that her illness was presented and discussed.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️
Tropes: Single Dad, Age Gap, Epilepsy Representation, Fade to Black.
3rd Act Breakup?: Yes

The Praise: I enjoyed Evie’s relationship with Sam and how they bonded. I really liked the premise of the book as well.

The Critique: I don’t mind fade to black romance but I don’t like when an adult book veers into almost YA territory with how innocent the MCs’ inner monologues are. At one point Evie says sitting with her leg against Jake’s is “steamy” and that just felt silly. It’s possible to write a romance without sex without making your characters seem almost childish, Sarah has done it in her other books.

Final Thoughts: This was fine. I really liked the concept but the execution just wasn’t there for me.

This was a quick and adorable read. I forget how much I love the cheesy, closed door, rom com books until I read a Sara Adams book and I realize how much I love them. Then again it could just the Sara Adams affect.

I loved Jacob and Evie. When they first met he was an asshole for no reason, and seeing Sam guilt trip him into giving in made me laugh. They had good chemistry and good build up and it didn’t feel rushed or forced. It just simply felt like two people actually falling in love with their soulmate.

I loved Evie and I loved her with Sam especially. Seeing her fill in the mother roll Sam needed without anyone asking her to was so empowering. We as women have a motherly instinct wether we realize it or not, and seeing it in this book especially made me more aware of mine and other people around me (even though I do not have kids and do not plan on having them for many years 😂). Seeing their relationship form and grow, and seeing the trust the Sam put into Evie was so endearing. As well as seeing the excitement from Evie whenever something good or impactful happened with Sam nudged at my heart strings.

Jacob is such a good father and truly always put Sam’s best interest first. It was apparent when Evie and him first met, and it was even apparent when Natalie comes back at the end of the book **eye roll and scoff**. That’ll forever be a favorite aspect that comes with the single parent trope for me.

The last thing I really loved was the epileptic awareness and representation. I personally do not have anyone who is affected by this disorder. But knowing what I know about it, it is a serious and scary condition that for people who don’t have the money to get the proper things they need, continually struggle with. Seeing service dogs being a focus, and the signs and symptoms that come with a seizure was interesting to read since I have never experienced it first hand. I also like how she would (although briefly) describe how the person who is seeing the seizure occur or a family member/significant other’s perspective and feelings toward seeing their loved ones go through it.

This book was just a cute read, that felt so easy and fluffy to read and had me wanting to read the next chapter. I love Sara Adams books and will forever recommend them to anyone who loves rom-com feeling books, as well as books with amazing topics and representation!
