Victor LaValle is fast becoming one of my favorite authors--and one of the few who can write urban fantasy in a way that doesn't feel silly or contrived. This was really fun and had me staying up late to finish.

A modern folk tale that lies at the intersection of urban fantasy and crime thriller. The Changeling's three acts are disjointed with uneven pacing and some out-of-the-blue plot development, but these flaws are sufficiently offset by nuanced characters, strong themes, and an interesting, Digital Age take on traditional (read: grisly) fairy tales.
