I’ve got the feeling Trek writers just don’t know what they should do with Mirrorverse, but still can’t leave their hands off it. But as of yet they gave it no real motivation, no reason why the Terran Empire should work out, if everyone is at everyone’s throat. And this comic book was no different. They like their tiny schemes, but always fail to present a bigger picture and deeper understanding.

This has been one of my favorite volumes of this series of graphic novels so far. We get a story from the perspective of Hendorff, the security officer. We also get Keenster's backstory and his first meeting with Scotty as well as glimpses into his upbringing. I appreciated the exploration of the bullying he experienced on his home planet. His brilliant intellect opened up an opportunity for him to join Starfleet where he meets Scotty. Scotty immediately treats him like an equal which allowed them to quickly forge a friendship together. One of the more interesting storylines in this volume involves the Kelvin Timeline version of the mirror universe. Kirk is as unhinged as I expected him to be and there is a lot of betrayal and intrigue that made the story interesting. I'm looking forward to the next volume. This one will be hard to beat, though.

This edition's Mirror universe story takes place in a different Mirror universe than the story in a latter volume. It has an very, very, very, very awesome ending and is worth the price of the collection alone.

The redshirt story is very good and features some of the charaters you see in the background. In fact, this series (the whole IDW series) makes excellent use of those characters and fleshes them out quite well.

"Mirror Mirror" is an iconic episode and tackling it in the reboot universe was never going to be easy. This felt overly tangled and pointless though. The original characters left an impression in the mirror universe. This reboot seemed more like an hallucination. And trying to work out which universe's timeline was involved, and what effect that had on the alternate original (?) timeline tired my brain. In the end I didn't care.
The short stories with Keenser and Hendorff were much better. It gave more of an insight to life and characters in the alternate series.
