this is a fantastic book, better even than Nowhere But Home, and I would rec it to my friends who like smart women. There's a lot of issues regarding family and letting people see who you really are and it was handled very well. It's nice to see how the other half lives. My one quibble is that every issue that any of the characters had was resolved. Even the tiniest little thing that didn't need to be resolved was. Things I didn't care about, things that no one but the character would care about, were resolved. Maybe I'm being a little critical, but it bugged me.

Really, really cute for romantic fiction. I don't usually give 4 stars to chick lit, just as a rule, but I like to read about people in love!

a la bridget jones.
made l.a. come very clear. And loved the quote about high-speed-chases and how it related to the main character's life.

I was hesitant when picking this book up at the library, but after so many stellar recommendations from my fellow book club members, I trusted the selection. I enjoyed this light, easy story about Elisabeth Page, a five-star pastry chef and member of a famous dysfunctional family in ritzy California. Watching Elisabeth make important choices in her life while attempting to retain a semblance of normalcy was very entertaining and I enjoyed Palmer's writing style immensely. This was a great end-of-summer book.

This book interested me because it sounded as though the story told would be about a strong female character overcoming obstacles and creating her own expectations, rather than following those of society. What I found was a highly bland novel. Elisabeth is not a character I fell in love with. She was underdeveloped and just kind of "there". The storyline seemed too cliche, and the ending didn't develop enough for the reader to see the main character triumph and succeed.

Put simply, the book is 290 pages of background, talking about the main character's family, and depicting the strange family dynamics. The other 6 pages are about Elisabeth, her struggled, and her successes.

While I made it through this novel, it's certainly not one I would recommend.

Elizabeth Page has a father and brother who are world renowned authors, a mother who's an heiress, and a lover who never stays in one place for long . She's spent her life expecting those she loves to let her down. So she never lets her guard down. Until she meets Daniel Sullivan a basketball coach who she lets "see her naked". This is a fun, quick read about self discovery.

Liza Palmer writes like I daydream.....read the book in two days and now not quite sure what to do with myself. Thoroughly enjoyable and very believable.

Less straight forward than most chick lit. There's actual conflict, well written and developed characters and a hero who's not a stereotype.
