This is a re-read for me. It was chosen for my Book Club. I expect this to be an excellent discussion. This book is set in rural Georgia, opens in the late 1930's and meanders along for more than 30 years. Young girl's are being molested and mudered in Augusta Falls. Joseph Vaughn is a young boy when the killings begin and it haunts him most of the next 30+ years.

A Quiet Belief in Angels is not your typical Murder Mystery, it is beautifully written, the prose is almost poetic. Be warned, the story is very slow moving so if you are not patient with these types of books, probably pass it by but I thoroughy enjoyed this slow read, even more the second time.

I had every character pegged as the killer at some point during the book and some characters I thought were the killer then something happens and I marked them off the list only to add them back to the suspect list later. While strong, the plot does not move you through this quickly but if you love beautifully written, slow moving stories...stick with it and you will be rewarded with a good read.

Too long, so many explanations and unnecessary elements had to DNF it.

A slow-paced crime novel set in rural Georgia before the First World War. Little girls are gruesomely murdered, impacting the life and future of Joseph Vaughan, precocious teenager. It is slow going. A better writer would have gotten away with it, but Ellory's prose is over-the-top and repetitive, trying too hard to be poignant and poetic. Joseph's obsession with the murders and subsequent navel gazing might have been interesting had there been som depth to it, but he remains a two-dimensional character and the endless dwelling grows infuriating after a few hundred pages. The novel tries to be something it is not, and would have been better off as a straight-forward crime story.

I liked this book. Generally im not a fan of trillers and all that, but this book was interesting. Some parts seemed a bit weird. The book was good but its not a favoritt. The audiobook was really good though. I dont think I was in the target audience.

This book hooked me from the 1st page. I was clearly in the mood. It was however sad. Don't read this if your mood can't take it. Great character study mixed with a tragic mystery.
