I really enjoyed this, I really felt for harper and was so glad she finally got a happy ending after everything she went through, I just wish we could have seen more time with them as a pack after they bonded!

3.5

This book was super hard for me to rate, it was between a 3 and a 4 for most of the story. Really I landed on a 3.5 because while I thought the story was interesting I felt that it progressed quite slowly and we didn’t see a lot of change throughout the story.  In a way, it felt like a prequel to what I hope is a series about overthrowing a fucked to government and society.

I’m going to warn you big time on this book though- it is EXTREMELY depressing.  The dystopian world these characters live in is dark.  And it’s not dark in a sexy way, it’s dark in an absolutely infuriating way that will make you want to punch your kindle.  The existence of the omegas is bleak and there is no change to their status in society by the end of this story.   I did not understand from the cover and the trigger warnings how dark this story would end up being.  The casual descriptions of degradation, humiliation, torture, medical torture, and sexual assault were definitely not what I was expecting.

I will say that this is an interesting take on omegaverse because it takes those darker and more extreme dystopian themes commonly found in traditional omegaverse stories and combines them with the ‘sweetverse’ style pack dynamics that have been increasingly popular over the last year.

For the most part I found the story to be balanced, although the middle was quite slow. I just wished that more was resolved about the government storyline- I guess that’s the plot line that’s meant to keep us coming back for more though.
