My first Stephen King book. Not what I expected but really enjoyed it.

Really had high hopes when it started off with the story of Charlie, his dad, Mr. B and Radar. Once he delved into the fairytale world, it was really hard to finish. It got very frustratingly repetitive, dull and dragged on and on when it didn't need to. The voice actor was the only thing that kept me going.

This was a wild ride and a different take than most of Stephen’s books that normally orient around the horror genre.

This took well know lore, legends and fairytales and put them in his own unique interpretation in this world of the other that just so happens to be down mr bowditches well.

It deals with morals, good deeds, grief and patience and so much more. I loved seeing our MC Charlie connect with both radar and mr bowditch as well as getting to travel with him through his journey and experiences in this other land.

Overall it was unexpected from king but an enjoyable read nonetheless. A unique take on so many well know fairytales and legends alll wrapped up into one creative interpretation that brought them all together in a unique story of its own.

A master of storytelling, this is a genuine modern-day fairy tale from King that I found utterly captivating. It's almost three separate stories, and from the first third or so I could never have guessed where things were going to go for the rest of the book.

I love a plucky young hero-with-dog combo, and the fact that Radar was the focus of all of Charlie's decisions just made me love him more. So by the time he goes on this fantastic adventure, I was rooting for him 100%.

This weaves traditional fairy tale stories with more recent fantasies, borrowing elements from each to create an astonishing, beautiful and brutal world. Of course it's not all sunshine and rescuing princesses, this gets dark and gruesome, in a way only King can do.

The end, after so much drama for so long, felt a little quiet and almost too easy. But after sitting with it for a while I realised it had been signposted all the way through, and it felt like a pretty classic fairy tale ending. Basically I just loved it.

A beautiful story of love, fear, and full of hope. Masterfully written, evoking true emotion. Gripping, exciting, nerve-wracking, brilliant.

Though I enjoyed this book on the whole and I think it had an interesting concept, the execution felt very disjointed. It was like reading two completely separate books between the first and second halves. The book was 50% exposition and the second half felt underdeveloped as a result.

Also, the main character repeatedly makes comparisons between the events of the book/the characters he meets and fairytales (thinking to himself). I feel like the reader could have been trusted to make these comparisons themselves.
