Good things about this book:
A 100 year old woman stabs someone with a sword.
Cursing cats.
A great deal of detail about Fulton Missouri.

Bad things about this book:
Cursing cats.
Many-page tangents for libertarian diatribes.
The mystery is the same as the last five in this series.

On balance:
Awesome!

While this series is generally great, it has had a few clunkers along the way. Cat of the Century is one such clunker. Too much proselytizing, not enough story. Also taking a lot of the action away from the main people and their community doesn't help.

I read these books a long time ago and in the last 6 months I started back again at #1 and now I'm at Cat of the Century. I guess when I was younger and didn't understand much of what the characters talked about, it didn't really matter about how biased and preachy the books have become. Man do I notice now. It's been hard to get through the last five books or so without rolling my eyes a few times.

Also, RMB needs a better editor who will check continuity. If the books generally take place in the same year they were published (for example, Puss n' Cahoots in 2008) then the continuity has just gotten way too muddled. Joan Hamilton's mother supposedly died back in 2005, however she was a character in Puss n' Cahoots. However, I didn't realize Fair and Harry had been married 4 years or more already... Cat of the Century takes place in 2009. Considering Puss n' Cahoots was the book in which their 'honeymoon' took place, I just don't understand the progression of time in the books. Also, supposedly Harry only found out about Tally's affair with Harry's grandfather a few years ago.

I don't know, the story in this one wasn't that great, and I continue to be mystified by the timelines in the books. I know continuity is not the most important thing in a cozy mystery series, but it does pull me out of it and make me a little disappointed that continuity can't even be kept in a series like this.

I enjoy all the books from this series. I think that they are good books for animal lovers and mystery lovers. Maybe it is because I have read most of the series but I was able to guess the killer in this book pretty soon. Of course I didn't know all of the detail, and I still enjoyed the book quite a lot. I agree with some of the other reviews about not being connected emotionally to the people who were killed, but that made the book less sad.

Aunt Tally Urquhart is about to turn 100 and she is also going to be honored by her alma mater, William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. Then things take a twist--a blizzard strikes the area and alumnae of the oversity begin to disappear and/or die. A nice little mystery that is seriously ruined by all of the preaching and ranting. A little subtlety goes a long way.

I liked this book but not as much as others in the series. I'm not exactly why but it just felt "off". I'll continue on with the series in the future. I just hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

I was expecting more from Rita Mae Brown, one of the prominant feminists of the 1960s, perhaps I should have read [b:Rubyfruit Jungle|165395|Rubyfruit Jungle|Rita Mae Brown|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1172341177s/165395.jpg|3017660] instead. This book instead was a thinly veiled "mystery" where the characters winged about the US government and society in general. I won't be reading anymore in the series.
