When Bess moves to a new town, she is not sure how it is going to be. But, she is soon distracted by many of the new things around her, such as the one-room school she attends. The best part, there is a mystery that needs to be solved, and Bess dives right in. When her uncle finds part of an old cabin behind the kitchen wall, he discovers a trunk and many other things inside. Bess brings the items to her house and begins to go through the documents and clothing, trying to figure out who they belong to.
As she dives deeper into the mystery, Bess begins to feel close to the couple that she is reading about, and wants to know more about them. She even begins to feel as though she was back in the cabin, during the time that the mysterious couple lived there. But that could not really happen.. could it?

A great little story! Perfect for kids who love a mystery and for those who are gaining their confidence in reading!

Good story

There was a small hint of mystery in this story, but there should've been a bit more suspense or building up. However, with that all said, I enjoyed the story of Bess, and how she is very curious and likes solving mysteries and learning things. Bess is a great character, and has something unique and quirky about here. I like her friendship with Megan, and how they connect to each other. I've read other books by Hembroff and enjoyed each one.
