3.5 stars. The world building is good, there's enough information about the alien society to really understand the motivations of the characters. There were some moments I didn't like, and the villain (villains?) is one dimensional. Just being mean for the sake of being mean. Some of the dialogues felt stiff, but in general it was OK.

I gave it a good try, made it through chapter 10. I just couldn't get in to the story, the writing.

I was provided this audiobook as a gift from one of the narrators. In exchange this is a honest review of the book and narration.

I have never read anything by Pearl Tate before and I must say that this first book has me intrigued in this series. Hannah is a scientist on a space lab that is orbiting Mars when the lab is damaged and set to explode. Bren and his force of aliens enter the lab and save Hannah. Bren is part of an alien force that needs external simulation to breed and procreate; however, when Bren meets Hannah something in him changes. Both Hannah and Bren have to deal with some insecurities and I enjoyed their instant connection. So much is setup for the rest of the series and I am excited to learn more.

The narration was pretty good with the exception on the male voice. I enjoyed it because the tone set the voice of the alien race but I could also see people having a problem with it being too gruff. The female narrator was very enjoyable to my ear. I like that the production of the story allowed for both narrators to be in the same scene together and not each narrator attempting to duplicate the other's voice.

This specific video review will be included in the August 2019 wrap-up.

The beginning of this book is a little confusing. Unlike other stories where they explain why it’s weird to feel this way or why sex is so uncommon you you learn as you go. However, it makes the story kid of hard to follow. Especially, with all the sex that is going and the plot comes second to that. I mean overall it’s a pretty good book but I’m hoping the next book has more plot and a little less sex.
Also, the narration was good she did a great job. The male voice took a little to get use to but nothing that would make you not want to listen.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook to review, this was at my request. Moreover, this plays no part in how I feel about this book or how I rated it.

Interesting story but I felt everything happened too quickly...from the time Hannah met her alien beau, there was no wasted time in them getting to know each other. The sex was excessive and took the focus away from learning enough about the aliens, their technology and in-depth history. Furthermore, it seemed so unrealistic that Hannah who was a brilliant doctor would just go with the flow and not insist on finding a way back to earth. It could have been so much more interesting if there was a bit of resistance on her part.

All in all, maybe the novel needed to be a little longer but a good story.

Book Review
Title: Bren’s Blessing & Matthias’s Miracle (Quasar Lineage Series Book 1 & 2)
Author: Pearl Tate
Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance
Rating: ***
Review: So as this is a bind up of two books, I am going to review them individually so half of this review will cover book 1: Bren’s Blessing and the second half will cover Matthias’s Miracle. Book 1 is going to follow Hannah and Bren, it starts with Hannah basically being kidnapped from her own spacecraft orbiting Mars when some aliens set off the self-destruct sensor. Hannah has an immediate connection with the Captain named Bren and through him we realise he is forming a mating bond with Hannah, yet this should happen because she is human but the dreams, vision and finding her all point to her being Bren’s mate.
After giving in to his primal desire Bren learns he was right about Hannah being his mate as after their lovemaking she develops the mating marks which are like living tattoos that Bren also has. However, he must now explain how Hannah has the marks and how they are mated to the other aliens around him. As we approach the ¼ mark in the novel, we learn that Bren species can’t mate especially the males due to some unknown circumstances and Bren is the first in a long time, while they are trying to document and understand the side effects of mating Bren is advised to contact his brother Matthias but that would mean informing the Council which would effectively turn him and Hannah into Guinea pigs for their race.
Things take an interesting turn when Hannah learns that Bren actually is promised to another woman and that she is now mated to him, but when it is explained that the males of their species are forced to mate with several women in the hopes of conceiving children Hannah is understandably sad for Bren and the others although Bren is pimped out as he has been promised since he was a child. This means he was a virgin before he slept with Hannah and while this does make her feel better Bren has been ordered to return home to possibly face judgement for breaking his promise to Vina. As Bren tries to investigate the old laws on mating on their journey back to his planet, Hannah is confused about what it means for them when Bren asks her to contact the historians. At first, she is utter perplexed about how her request would have more weight than Bren’s and then she learns that Bren neglected to mention that their planet is run by women.
The ending of Bren’s Blessing was interesting to say the least and was by far my favourite bit of the novel. However, I felt that the book focused more on the sexual relationship between Hannah and Bren to the point where it was no longer interesting. Learning about their culture, the trails and so much more would have made the book a more enjoyable read. Due to this I won’t be reading Matthias’s Miracle.

I like the world that the author created but the sex scenes were too drawn out and there were too many of them. For a book of this length, I think two full-on sex scenes are plenty. However, I will move on to the next book to see if the writing improves because the situation that was set up in this book is interesting.
