America Singer is very indecisive.
It was already stupid of her to sneak make out sessions with her ex boyfriend while actively dating the prince. I had hope she would stop completely but she resumed as soon as she wasn't in good terms with the prince. She has very little trust in someone she agreed to be married to. What drew the line for me is when she kept doing that after her own best friend was publicly punished for doing the same thing. It's a crime punishable by death in their world but she seems to think she's above all the rules. I also don't really understand why their own castle, supposedly the most protected area keeps getting raided by rebels.

The characters are hard to distinguish. There's not enough to set them apart except the main cast. The world building is intriguing but not well done. I wish they communicated more to resolve misunderstandings. It's a common trope in romance but when it keeps reoccuring, it gets tiring. It made their relationship really weak.

I had a good time re-reading this book. It wasn't as good as I remember, but I had fun.

I’ve heard that this book is one of people’s least favorites in the Selection series, and I can see why. Don’t get me wrong, I greatly enjoyed this book and read through it quickly! In comparison to the first book, I believe this one had a great deal more political world building in it. Because of that, the actual aspect of the Selection seemed to be almost paused and not much happening there. But it was still something I wanted to read and became completely immersed in; just not as much as the first book.

Side note: I LOVE the relationship America has with her father. The way she constantly asks him for guidance and looks to him as a level-head is just incredible!

I'm dizzy at how much America was going back and forth between Maxon and Aspen.
