Not a fan of Thumboo's writing, particularly the political/programmatic ones which lack nuance. 'Jackass Penguins' is the only poem that evoked an emotional response in me. Otherwise, his writing is either overly spontaneous (all those about his lover's eyes) or prosaic/programmatic. The 'Earth, Fire, Water, Air' phrase started to turn me off after a while.
