Talk about a turnaround. I was hating this book, yes, hating, the first half. It did get better though, and the ending pulled on my heart strings.
Spoiler
Sonja really gave me conflicting emotions - I felt pity for her for being an abuse victim, but at the same time how callous she was about putting Zoe into foster care so quickly made me so angry. Like listen lady, you're a stranger barging into a house with a 15 year old who doesn't know you, has never met you, and then you find it 'suspicious' that said 15 year old won't provide you with phone numbers, addresses, etc of people she deems safe... c'mon. As a social worker, that seems highly unethical and like she'd know a much better way of approaching the situation. Pretty sure that whole situation is one thing that wouldn't happen in real life, and it seemed like such an overexaggerated reach.janif49's review against another edition

No spoilers here. I'm mostly interested in talking about the author. Sally Hepworth is now on my auto buy list.
She manages to write about tragic situations with such grace and knowledge. She manages to add humor to bleak situations.
I fully recommend books by Ms. Hepworth.
