I really loved the characters of this book, although the plot was a little weak. I really felt for everyone as they went through what they went through, even the more insignificant players. I wasn't a fan of Big's side storyline and found that odd, but the main story kept me interested. I'll likely pickup another book by this author, it is nice to read some women's fiction that hasn't been dumbed down to bad chick-lit.

I love reading books set in the south, especially in my home state of Mississippi. Well written book filled with mystery, adolescent hormones, and the intense love of family. Strong female characters and a well developed story line. I really enjoyed this story and was sad when it ended.

Love Joshilyn Jackson books. This book centers around three women, a grandmother and mother who both had babies at age 15. Now that the baby is 15 their world turns upside down when the body of a baby is found in the backyard. Pick this up if you would like a book with strong women, a mystery, sass and wit.

A couple quotes just for fun:

Big: I could have put an ad up on the Craiglist and tried to get one of my own: "Desperately seeking lawyer. Must like long walks on the beach, not getting paid, and losing." I hear there's a whole mess of lawyers just like that; they keep an office between Mermaid Cove and the Unicorn Forest.

Mosey: Before my mom had her brain event, I never even saw him have a conversation with her face. He talked lower, like he thought her boobs had microphones in them and if he aimed right he could order up a chili-dog combo.

Big: Next thing I knew, me and Lance Weston were slipping off together. I was pretty sure we were falling in love, and he was pretty sure that freshman girls with that much zombie punch in 'em put out. Only one of us was right.

The book has a great story, however, the first half of the book was a little slow, it was about half way into the story where I got hooked that I couldn't put the book down until I knew what happened. Yet, it is a good story with a lesson on life and love.

Not thrilled with the writing but the story is gripping. I really enjoyed the characters especially Ginny.

The last scene with Mosey in her birth mother’s home is unbelievable and not sure why it was thrown in there the way it was. She had to meet her, sure, for the story to close neatly but it did not have to be that way.

There is a little trashy romance included and I do not appreciate that type of romance. I don’t quite understand why stuff like this has to be thrown into a story. It degrades the story line. The story would have been fine without that.

Another great book by Joshilyn. I listened to the audible version, Joshilyn narrates her own books and if you get a chance to listen, do it. She adds so much to the story.

Love Joshilyn Jackson's writing, but I'm not really sold on her as an audio book narrator. The words are good enough for me to keep going, but it does take me out of the story a bit.
..........
I wrote the above comments early on in my listening, and by the end I was totally accustomed to her as a narrator, though still not my favorite. It didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. I really enjoy Joshilyn Jackson's strong, flawed female characters.
