In this third book in the FunJungle series, seventh grader Teddy has another mystery on his hands. Someone has taken a shot at Rhonda the Asian rhinoceros, who is not only endangered but pregnant as well. Since rhinoceros horns are extremely valuable, the zoologists are concerned that poachers are targeting the rhinos in the park. Teddy wants to investigate, and this time JJ McCracken actually requests his help. Together, Teddy and Summer track clues through the park. They find themselves in situations that are either humorous or dangerous as the mystery unfolds. There are plenty of suspects as well as nighttime encounters with a variety of animals. Without being heavy-handed or taking away from the action-packed story, Mr. Gibbs provides excellent information about the importance of protecting Rhinos and other endangered species. Recommended for grades 3 & up. I suggest reading the series in order.

As with all of Stuart Gibbs’ books, I found this book a fun read. The series theme of living at a zoo and solving crimes makes for all sorts of interesting stories. I was also glad that this story addressed a growing concern about the safety of rhinos whereby people are killing them for their horns.

Still going strong. Fascinated by exotic game ranches in Texas now, and a good intro to the debate.

This series was already excellent but Gibbs really hits his stride as he fleshes out all the characters even with the addition of new ones. I really did not see the resolution to this coming and loved how the mystery was solved. Plus Pancake the orangutan is a gem of a character.

A middle-grade mystery set in an animal park. This book does not shy away from tough conservation questions, but never gets heavy handed about them. Cute.
