I really enjoyed this book. There are so many reminders of our shared humanity and how easy it is to lose sight of when we live such isolated lives. I liked seeing the garden from so many perspectives and seeing people change their minds and actively participate in their community. There are a few sentiments that rub me the wrong way, but I think this is a book I will read over and over.

A heartfelt book that is excellent at illustrating shared experiences by people of different backgrounds . I only wish this book had been published 15 years earlier when I was a kid but I loved reading it now . It has a hopeful message and written by a true gardener .

This book has some insensitive depictions of marginalized groups and is also lacking in nuance, which I don’t think can be blamed on its length. It has a great premise, I just think it’s very outdated in its execution. I mostly finished it out of spite.
