I really enjoyed this retelling of Medusa’s story - through the lens of many gods, mortals and creatures (even sheep!). This is definitely the best telling I’ve heard of Medusa and her story - she’s often discussed but never  talked about in the way she is in this book, and I’m very fond of the way her tale is told. I found it a tad confusing at times when perspectives switched,  but the plot remains mostly clear regardless of who’s narrating it.

💔

Who decides what is a monster?’
‘Men, I suppose.’
‘They fear us, so they call us monsters.’
‘But they don’t know who you are.’

‘Men call you monsters because they don’t understand you.’

I don’t feel like saving mortals any more. I don’t feel like saving anyone any more. I feel like opening my eyes and taking in everything I can see whenever I get the chance. I feel like using the power the goddess gave me. I feel like spreading fear wherever I go, wherever Perseus goes. I feel like becoming the monster he made. I feel like that.

Men will tell you that Gorgons are monsters, but men are fools. They cannot comprehend any beauty beyond what they can see. And what they see is a tiny part of what there is.
