Not the book to read if looking for escapism but an interesting story if you aren’t.

This started quite promisingly but I was a bit disappointed by the end. I love Becky Chambers' and Andy Weir's books and I was hoping this would be similar but this is certainly not a fun space book. The premise was so interesting and I really wanted to get swept up in the story but it turned out to be quite slow paced considering how high the stakes are. I didn't feel connected to the characters so I didn't really care about the flashback chapters and the climax was a bit of a let down. There were parts I really enjoyed but overall it didn't come together for me.

I’m not sure I would have picked this up had it been sold to me as a book about travelling to another planet to escape earth because of climate change, instead I was told about the dynamics between the women on this ship.
I still fundamentally disagree with the concept of investing in escaping earth instead of fixing it but I feel like this explored the topic in an interesting and entertaining g way and the human/emotional element was excellent. It was a gripping story with interesting but not necessarily likeable characters, and I liked the flip flopping of timelines.

I feel like the book brought together a lot of interesting topics from space politics and social dynamics to pandemics and women’s rights. It’s set in space but it’s much more than a sci fi.
