Sappho was an archaic Greek poet who was known for her lyrical poetry that's usually accompanied by music. During her time, she was widely regarded and was even considered "The Tenth Muse" or "The Poetess". She was a prolific poet who probably composed over 10,000 lines but only 650 have survived the test of time. A lot of Sappho's works have been lost (many of which were transcribed and kept in the library of Alexandria) and only one of her poems exists as a completed piece.
Her poetry is now presented in this compilation as fragments, and in this version each fragment is paired with a page analysis explaining the potential meaning behind the pieces.
Sappho's use of descriptive imagery makes her lines stand out to be, but it's also her ability to capture human emotions that transcend time that make her pieces all the more special. I thoroughly enjoyed learning abut both the historical and mythological aspects behind each piece as well, and generally enjoyed this collection overall. It's a tragedy to think about what we lost with Sappho's writing, but I'm grateful that these fragments still exist for us to look back on.

if sappho has a million fans, then im one of them.
if sappho has one fan, it’s me.
if sappho has no fans, that means i’m dead.
