This was a brilliant memoir. It painted a unique picture of the life of a gay, black man in America with so much emotion and heart, but also with great humor. The introduction alone had me in stitches. I listened to this on audio, and I highly recommend it. R. Eric Thomas' narration of his memoir adds a personal touch and the delivery of his jokes all the more hilarious. There are also points in the audiobook where you can hear him getting emotional, and that always hits me hard with audiobooks. I like when authors are not afraid to be vulnerable when telling their stories. My favorite chapter, I think, was the chapter about his time working at Hard Rock in Baltimore, tied with the chapter where he talks about his high school best friend / first love. This memoir was so special and I can definitely see myself giving it another listen.
