it was just. weird and kind of mediocre. the main vibe that i got is that the author read intensity (or some other thriller novel w travel elements) and then wanted to wring out everything that made that book good into watered down ya fiction. there are just so many better ya thrillers than this one that you could go read instead.
i didnt really find any of the characters interesting, and the plot felt very predictable. the writing was pretty good and i was generally interested in figuring out where it was going, especially because it was so short and fast paced. the letters from her admirer felt so random and had no connections to who it turned out being, but it was so obviously him because he was the only one she trusted somewhat and kept playing up how cute he was.
knocked it out in two hours during a storm at camp but i really wasn't hyped about finishing it.

Five Perfect Strangers takes an ordinary teen who needs to get home to her mom for the holidays, and the four college students heading the same direction. Richards throws us into the back roads of Pennsylvania to remind us not to trust a person solely by their appearance.

This one took me a while to finish but I’m glad I did because I was proven right in the end and that was satisfying. Anyhow, this book was a good time and I would honestly read another book from this author again (so I will be checking her stuff out later). The cover is pretty nice too so I’m still debating if I wanna own a physical copy or not 🤔. I will say I wish I had read this during December instead because it took place in a winter setting so it would have felt more in season but I digress. Now I didn’t feel too attached to any character in particular and even at times the main character was hard to connect with that I sometimes wished we were getting someone else’s perspective of things and I couldn’t help but feel that the ending felt somewhat rushed too. But in the end, it was fine and I could see this becoming a nice little thriller Christmas movie (but I also hope nobody touches it so I’m conflicted). In the end, it was a nice second thriller book that I got my hands on, and I’m moving onto the next!
Would I recommend this book to others?
Oh yeah for sure, I’m probably going to mention it to my friends and family later so check it out if you want something chillingly festive to read or listen to while driving during the winter season.
