“Choices are never easy. There are good and bad options, but the most dangerous is to not make any choice at all.”

Bold choice to completely undo everything readers had to invest in while reading Book 1. Also shit got dark at the end. I'm not in the intended audience for this book -- it's not for me and I'll leave it at that. I remember liking Book 1, but I was just getting back into reading then and hadn't really found my favorite genres/authors yet.

I was a bit bummed out that, in this book, I didn't get to see much of the characters I fell in love with in the first book. I especially missed Harper!! But I definitely fell in love with the characters in this book too. I did not expect the ending!! I'm excited for whenever book 3 will be released!

THIS BOOK WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER.

AAH Kimmerer, how you never fail to disappoint me. The writing was as wonderful as I expected, the description, the plot, everything was great. I really admire Kimmerer’s vocab and writing style. It’s so flowy and nice. The characters were well developed too even though I might now have liked some of their motives.

Talking about the story itself, the start was great obviously. We got some noice Harper/ Rhen content yayy. But then came Grey who I didn’t really mind at the beginning but around 30% into the book I was getting seriously pissed at him ugh.

Also, I hate Lia Mara. She was ok when she first appeared but THEN. I hated how she continuously judged Rhen.
Spoiler I mean yeah she had a bad encounter with him, he captured her blah blah but since I know Rhen’s story and understand why he thought she was lying when she came back alone and tried to negotiate, I was really frustrated by her.
Spoiler

Most of the reviews of this book that I have read are all about fangirling over Grey but for me….no, he merely made me angry.
Spoiler How his “loyalty” to Rhen during his curse was just because of his oath. How as soon as he was released from it he became a rebel. Fine. He was the true heir. And he acted like a total jerk hiding it from Rhen and then making a fuss when Tycho was flogged as well. Which was cruel on Rhen’s side. BUT. Grey should have understood.
Spoiler He spent 300+ seasons witnessing a magesmith torture Rhen and knew how much he feared them and why he would go to such extents to find the identity of the true heir who ,I might add, had magesmith blood in him and might just turn out to be as evil as Lilith. But noooo, Grey had to pretend to be the victim and kill me while I read about his shitty personality and actions. BUt no, it doesn’t stop there. We’re gonna have a grand war between Rhen and Grey. Yayy soo excited for it I hope you get shot in the head, Grey. Fucking bastard ugh.

I NEED MORE RHEN RHEN IS GREAT I LOVVE RHEN I cant believe I have to wait like a year for more Rhen content ughhhhhhh Grey can fall in a ditch and die but nobody touches my precious Rhen… *heart eyes*

ok, Imma head out and wait for an year till the next book comes out. *sigh*

“Ah yes, the most dangerous person at the party is always the girl sitting alone with a book.”

No sé, me decepcionó mucho.

“This one is for you, my dear reader. Look in the mirror. You’re a cursebreaker. You’re strong. You’re amazing. You are changing the world by just being in it. And I am so very proud of you.”

A good book if you view it as a standalone, but a really disappointing sequel that went in a completely different direction than the first book.

It became clear pretty quickly that this was would be from different perspectives than the previous book and I honestly couldn’t find it in myself to be interested. Maybe another time when there aren’t other books I’m more eager to read.
