I'm currently trying to get back into reading after being burnt out from uni. The story was incredibly rich and interesting, but I struggled picking this up day after day. I think it was just a bit too outside my genre comfort zone but I might come back to it later!

You love entangled family stories which culminate in a big bang? “There there” and “Homegoing” were your jam? Then you will also love “Kintu” - a story about individuals who form a ugandian clan, brought together by a powerful curse. I really liked the magical realism in this book, which made the stories unique- and it helped to devour all the violence which happens to the protagonists. In parts this book is brutal, it will punch you in your literary comfort zone. But there is also light and love which makes for an exceptional contrast.
I am very excited for the other books by Makumbi
