It's with a heavy, heavy heart that I give this book 2 stars. I love this series and was so excited to read Logan's story but sadly I really didn't like it. I think my main problem was Hope. I hate her and didn't want to read a single page she was on, which was a lot of them. I almost made this a DNF because I found Hope and Logan so annoying together. He spends 330 pages telling her to leave him alone and she just keeps going back for him to be a jerk again. He got really mean a couple times and I found it really hard to read. I didn't even care if they got a HEA I just wanted the book to end, I liked all the side plots and they were really good which is the only reason I'm going to keep reading this series.

Here we're given Logan's story line, and he's tied in with a woman named Hope who does not know who she is, and is much more than what she seems. We're taken waaaaaayyy back to the origin of the whole Sentinel world with this one. However, you're detracted greatly from the main story with all the other prep going on.

It seems like too many other stories are being set up here, it kind of detracts from the main storyline. I counted at least four being set up here. I kind of found myself skimming and flipping more than reading at some points.

We're also introduced to a new type of Sentinel as well, but we don't have too much background info on them just yet, and I think that's mostly because one of the new Sentinel's will be the main character in a later novel.

This story could have been done a bit better I think, less set up of later books, and a little more focus on the main story. But otherwise I liked it.

Frustrating, but still an interesting read. I liked Logan's story, and getting more out of the overview history. Can't wait for some of the other characters to pick up, and more depth with Slayers and such.

Finally we get a point of view from one of the parasites of society, the looked down upon Sanguiner Logan.

In all the other Sentinel Wars books you see Logan and how he and his brothers struggle to survive. He is a devastatingly handsome honorable man with the weight of his race on his shoulders, though the Theroni have a difficult time seeing him that way.

Hope is well named for she brings that and more to Logan. Secrets are revealed that bring us closer to seeing the full picture. You can tell Butcher has this large complex plan in her head and is feeding it to us bit by bit.

There are a lot of different characters and plot lines going on in this book. Even if you follow the series it might be a little confusing at times. There is just so much going on, this book keeps the story moving and ties a lot of it together but it might have been nice to have a little more of it centered on Logan and Hope.

Another great addition to the series. It will not disappoint.

I'm giving this a four-star rating but I am still annoyed at the heroine's foolishness. I also wish that the last chapter , and its new ideas, had been more developed.

Synopsis
Suffering from amnesia, Hope Serrien is searching for her true identity and uses her ability to see auras to help homeless people on the street. Her charges have recently begun disappearing and while searching, Hope encounters Logan, an enigmatic stranger who promises to aid Hope in her quest. The two soon discover that the other is hiding secrets and that a terrifying foe is determined to use them for his own nefarious ends.

Review
One of the most appealing aspects of the Sentinel Wars is the multiplicity of story lines. While some readers may find this distracting because there is a lot going on, for me, this not only enhances the world building and the overall story arc (we are finally given details of the third group of Sentinel warriors - the Slayers), it also makes it easier to identify with the different characters because they are so well developed across the various books. However, for this reason it is crucial to read the series in order.

The focus in this book is on the Sanguinars, who have been a morally ambiguous group until now and it is particularly interesting to see things from their perspective. The suffering they must endure and the threat to their race is as compelling as that of the Theronai and explains much about their secretive behavior.

Logan and Hope are an intriguing couple with wonderful chemistry. It is a sign of Butcher's writing skill that she can create a character such as Logan who comes across both as honorable and self-sacrificing but also as manipulative and conniving. It was difficult to warm up to him in previous books but he charmed me completely in this one. Like the other heroines in the series, Hope is strong willed and plays a significant role in the action (another highlight). The conflict between Logan's growing attraction to Hope and his duty to his people is at the heart of the story. The way in which everything comes to a head and the resolution of their romance makes for a satisfying read even though the push and pull between them is frustrating at times.

As mentioned above, the secondary characters are well written and several will obviously be featured in their own books. Jackie and Iain's book is next but I'm also interested in seeing what happens with Joseph and his Slayer counterpart - Andreas.

Overall, Blood Hunt is a great addition to an excellent series.

Everything I expect from this series. It was fast-paced, entertaining and the romance aspects weren't overdone. This book even distracted me from the moth that seems to have taken up residence in my living room (damn vaulted ceiling...).
