TLDR: a book about a human princess betrothed to a powerful and feared vampire king and she must choose between her people or her new husband. There's definitely an enemies to lovers trope.

I'll start off by saying that I have read the Hades saga from Scarlett St. Clair and I actually liked the Adrian x Isolde storyline a little better. The story is told from Isolde's perspective which, I thought was done well but there could have been a little more character development throughout the book. Their is a lot of spiciness, for some it's a lot, to me I think it's fine (it is a romance book so spiciness is expected). I wish Adrian was in more of the scenes but when he did make an appearance, I thought the storyline was a little better. Maybe we'll get a book from Adrian's perspective like the Hades saga but who knows. The ending was okay, I think it was building up to it. Will probably read the next book in the series.

Honestly, I'm not even sure what I think of this book.. I've seen all of the mixed reviews and I'm very unsure of my opinion too.

There wasn't anything majorly wrong with this book per se, but it was all over the place sometimes. Basically just vampire erotica... I would've wanted more of the fantasy/vampiric aspects.

This book also made me realise that I might not like the trope where the woman's soul gets reborn and she now looks different, acts different, IS different, but she remembers the past life and suddenly she's like: "It's me, and you were actually in love with me, but it's not actually me!" The two characters just feel too far apart from each other. But then again, maybe they're meant to be apart, I have no idea.

I knew then who I truly was. Who I had always been. Yesenia of Aroth. I was Yesenia of Aroth—not now, not in this body, but I had been her in another life, in Adrian’s life.

I don't have much to say, I don't think I wasted my time by reading this, but I don't feel super excited to read the series. (update: I have completely forgotten this series and I won't be returning.)

This has such a good plot. There could have easily been a 5 star book. There is just so much lacking in character development, world building, and too much focus on Isolde's inner turmoil that we miss out on so much. I plan on giving the second book a chance to see if, now that
her dad is dead
, if we can make some progress and do more world building.
