I’m a huge fan of the DS Nathan Cody series, and when I saw that there was a new installment I was thrilled! It felt like I had been waiting for AGES for it, but it was definitely worth it!

Your Deepest Fear sees Cody investigating a murder where the bereaved wife is displaying rather unusual tendencies. Not upset when she should be, and quite secretive at times. This leads Cody to thinking there is more than meets the eye with Sara. The reader gets glimpses into Sara’s train of thought, and as she becomes almost vigilante-like in her quest for justice for her murdered husband, even Cody is pulled into it unknowingly.

Parallel to this, and I’m mindful of spoilers here, Cody has his own problems. Issues in his past have led him to experience some emotional turmoil, and he’s still feeling the effects. Terrifyingly, his past is coming back to haunt him in a big way in Your Deepest Fear.

I’ve never seen him as vulnerable as he is in this book, and it works really well. You get a deeper insight into how his mind is working almost overtime to keep on top of everything and processing what’s happening around him in this book.

Your Deepest Fear is a supremely satisfying thriller. It gives you the creeps, pulls you in immediately and doesn’t let you go until the bitter end. It is clever, dark and downright scary.

I LOVED IT!

Highly recommended, as always!

The 4th in the series but can be read as a standalone. Sara returns from Copenhagen to find a message on her answering machine from her estranged husband Matthew. This brings her into the orbit of DS Nathen Cody who is battling demons of his own.
A delicious and creepy concoction dark and fast paced writing! Very addictive. Had me reading at a furious rate. A mixture of psychological thriller and police procedural. It works!
The past returns to haunt Cody and Sara is left wondering about her husband's cryptic message. What do they have in common, if anything?

This is a very addictive read, sharp concise prose and short chapters keep the reader turning the pages. As I said book4, so I'm off to find 1,2 and 3!

Found this to be frustrating, too many obvious tropes and misogynistic comments. Having read the Nathan Cody books first, this felt like a real drop in storytelling quality.

I feel like the author got sick of writing the book or something because it ends, abruptly and in order to make sense and close up the loose ends, the author has one character phone another character and explain what happened.

My absolute biggest pet peeve in a thriller. If you need the bad guy to explain the plot points to the reader, you’ve failed miserably in your story telling. And this was a massive fail, since the plot points here were so convoluted that even the pivotal characters where left scratching their heads and wondering WTF just happened.

Honestly, you could skip the entire book and just read the section at the end with Cody and Waldo and you’d miss nothing.

Your Deepest Fear is a dark and fast paced page turner of a thriller that you won’t want to read on your own late at night. It is the first book I’ve read featuring DS Nathan Cody, but it definitely won’t be my last. As someone who loved David Jackson’s Callum Doyle series of books, I had high hopes for this book and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Sara Prior receives a cryptic message from her estranged husband shortly before he is found brutally murdered in his own home. Deciding to take the investigation into her own hands, Sara is drawn into a dark and dangerous world that takes her in a shocking direction she would never have expected.

Meanwhile, as DS Nathan Cody and his team try their best to solve the murder themselves, the case gets horrifyingly personal when things take a sudden dark and twisted turn.

What follows is a thrilling and scary tale, full of the twists and turns I’ve come to expect from Jackson’s work. Add into the mix terrifying clowns, something that the mere mention of turns me into a quivering wreck, and you have a thriller to be reckoned with. Brilliantly written, with a superb plot that keeps you guessing throughout, this is a book that kept me reading long into the night, scaring myself silly in the process.

Tension filled and exciting, with a fantastic cast of characters, I will definitely be reading more of this series of books in the future. An addictive rollercoaster of a ride that I thoroughly recommend.

this has been my least favourite of the series so far, the crime sucked tbh, i hope the next book (idk when that’s coming out) features another kidnapping or maybe a bombing?

as for this book, yeah pretty boring :(

This was so good! Finally more info on Waldo, who is quite a sinister villain, but I wish there was more in the series! Since it's been a few years I'm not sure whether the author will write more but it would be a shame to not have more Cody in our lives
