This is book has completed destroyed me in every way possible and I'm so devastated that I can't read the next one just yet. I cried, I laughed, I smiled, and I felt e v e r y t h i n g in between. If you haven't read this book, don't walk — run to do go get it.

This book! WOW
The first half of the book is reminiscent of red queen, however it’s world building and imagery is really good!
It’s a simple, fun and easy read
I was squealing at the banter, and the tension was amazing
It was slow burn and instant love at the same time(?) in that mc and love interest didn’t acknowledge their feelings for one another until the end, but since the start there was SO MUCH PINING
Overall, 4.5 stars
It’s great for reading when trying to get out of a slump, or after you DNF’d another book. I would recommend it as a closed door, romantasy book (:
What would make it better and bring it up to five stars would be: less instant love (love interest liked mc since the start) and once the got together, more romantic moments.
Age rating - 11+
Stars - 4.5
Genres - romance (closed door), fantasy

Why did I put this book off so long?

I bought this as soon as I found Lauren Roberts on TikTok but never read it. Powerless has made an appearance on monthly TBRs, but again I didn’t read it. I haven’t gotten into fantasy romances before because of the length. What finally made me want to read was Sara Carrolli ❤️

This book has tension, goooood banter, forbidden love (in a way), and deception. It was a great first fantasy romance. Very much reminded me of the trials from the Hunger Games but also a movie with a similar plot of someone born to kill the very thing he ends up growing closer to. I can’t remember the name of the movie for the life of me. Can’t wait for the remainder of the series. I have some theories!

Tbh I loved it. I loved the characters, the plot, the ending.
I would say that although being marketed as though it doesn't resemble Red Queen or Hunger Games, I think it does a lot and the plot is quite unoriginal but to me it doesn't make it bad. Also majority of the wiring was really good and I could visualise everything perfectly but there were certain moments which felt slightly cheesy.
But the tension, the characters, and the plot make up for the rest!
