Why did I put this book off so long?

I bought this as soon as I found Lauren Roberts on TikTok but never read it. Powerless has made an appearance on monthly TBRs, but again I didn’t read it. I haven’t gotten into fantasy romances before because of the length. What finally made me want to read was Sara Carrolli ❤️

This book has tension, goooood banter, forbidden love (in a way), and deception. It was a great first fantasy romance. Very much reminded me of the trials from the Hunger Games but also a movie with a similar plot of someone born to kill the very thing he ends up growing closer to. I can’t remember the name of the movie for the life of me. Can’t wait for the remainder of the series. I have some theories!

Tbh I loved it. I loved the characters, the plot, the ending.
I would say that although being marketed as though it doesn't resemble Red Queen or Hunger Games, I think it does a lot and the plot is quite unoriginal but to me it doesn't make it bad. Also majority of the wiring was really good and I could visualise everything perfectly but there were certain moments which felt slightly cheesy.
But the tension, the characters, and the plot make up for the rest!

I believe the author has been slightly influenced by the "Hunger Games" trilogy. And by slightly influenced I mean not only the concept of the games but also almost every part of the plot seems like an exact copy.

But...the writing of the characters, the dialogues, the banter, the build up and tension were so captivating and well-written that surprisingly I was able to easily overlook being able to predict the entire plot.

I mean the spelling was...not that great but the morally grey characters were. Thus all in all I would still recommend this book for someone who likes romantasy with a strong fMC.
