if it wasn’t a book I read physically I would’ve finished it much sooner cos dear lord was it intruiging as hell. I am SAT for the next book. the inner turmoil she faces with making friends with the king and falling in love with kai but also knowing she’s here as part of the resistance … I ate it up.

This book was very good! I love all of the flirting, the banter, and the slowest burn! I will say I was a little disappointed in the ending because it did not deliver on the slow burn, but it did leave off on a very intriguing end that has me anxious for book 2. I think of this as a mix between The Hunger Games and The Bridge Kingdom with magic - again, very good! Definitely recommend.

I wanted to like this one more than I did. :-/ The blurb sounded great and it started off with promise, but the pacing is way off and the plot was lackluster. Again, I know I am basically asking for disappointment when the story says they're doing a Battle Royale à la Hunger Games and then the game is *spoiler alert* literally something as easy as capture the flag or a freaking hedge maze. *sigh* Besides the game mechanics, the plot was so long-winded and the side characters were underdeveloped. The story attempts a quasi-love triangle, but it lacks tension. And while I enjoyed the banter and dynamic between the two leads, I also needed more tension in their enemies-to-lovers arc. The MMC gives in too easily to his feelings, which made things feel too one sided. And though this book felt like it took forever to get through, the whole ending felt rushed. Despite all this, I might continue on in the series because the ending set us up for an interesting new dynamic between Paedyn & Kai, but I will definitely just wait to get it free from the library.
