I reached for this because my grandpa was a huge elvis presley fan, and this was the first book i ever seen him read; it did not disappoint.

i love how it was written, and how lisa marie’s words are separated from riley’s. it gave a unique perspective and it can show how both can be unreliable narrators at times. my heart broke reading this, but there was also beautiful passages and funny lines. i enjoyed reading it so much.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a sadder, more inspiring book. Equal parts funny and utterly heartbreaking, I highly recommend it if you’re at all interested in Elvis and his legacy, Lisa’s own legacy, music, addiction, mental health, or, surprisingly (to me, I had no idea she was a member) Scientology. Riley Keough, Lisa Marie’s eldest child, is the co-author, as it was published after Lisa Marie Presley passed in 2023. Lisa's writing is brutally honest, funny, poignant, and at times, absolutely devastating. Riley's writing is so full of love for her mother that even when she's talking about heart wrenching moments of deep pain in her own life, you would never doubt for a second that Riley and her mother shared a deep and profound bond. The way Riley writes about her mother, you can tell that they love they shared as mother and daughter was, and is, absolutely unconditional. I give From Here to the Great Unknown 5 stars.

This is a memoir, written by both Lisa Marie Presley and her daughter, Riley Keough, as it was completed after Lisa Marie's death. The book goes back and forth between Lisa Marie telling of her childhood and life and Riley, hers. The book covers: being raised at Graceland, Elvis's death, her relationships with Priscilla, abuse Lisa experienced, her relationships (including Michael Jackson), her son's suicide, her substance abuse and her death. Lisa Marie's parts are read by Julia Robert's, with some recordings of Lisa Maria interspersed.

This is the book to read on Elvis as a father, and Lisa as a woman through girlhood. It's a challenging read, as it delves into some heavy and dark subjects in such raw and vivid detail. But, there's also moments of levity and normalcy between family relationships. Like Elvis singing to Lisa in bed, Riley and her siblings doing karaoke with their momma. It's both a heartbreaking and heartwarming journey to experience alongside them, and I'm so grateful that the family felt safe enough to share such deeply personal events from their private lives.

I think the overall narrative is written so beautifully. It's strong with the alternating voices between Lisa's recorded dialogue and Riley's written retrospect. They complement each other in powerful ways, and leads the story forward. Like echoes of each other back and forth, touching on the generational trauma and grief that the Presley family inherits.

What a profound and complex view of humans and a family. Probably the best book I've read this year.
