Something about the Presley family fascinates me but this was heart-breaking. I didn't pay much attention to the description and the cover made me expect more about Elvis. It more showed the generational trauma this family has endured and their flaws. I listened to the audiobook and Riley reading parts of it added an additional emotional component.

Knowing next to nothing about Lisa Marie Presley or her family, I've come away with the further conviction that fame, notoriety are a poison. It takes a very balanced person to be so in the public eye and not be affected by it. This memoir was beautiful in its rawness, and I'd never read one written almost like a conversation between the subject, who's passed away, and her daughter. Will be thinking about it for awhile.

I am equally shocked and, well, not shocked. There are a lot of triggers in here so proceed with caution.

That said, the audio was phenomenal. Lisa Marie sections were read by Julia Roberts, Riley Keough read for herself, and there are even audio clips of Lisa Marie. Fathers and daughters, motherhood, relationships, living in the shadow of others expectations (and Elvis). This was an emotional ride.

**Content/Trigger Warnings! This memoir discusses heavy themes such as: the death of a parent, grief, abortion, substance abuse, alcohol use, suicide, the death of child, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.**

This was visceral! The grief of both Lisa Marie and Riley are just so guttural and raw. It’s a very emotional read and one that I deeply empathize with. I really enjoyed it even at the times it felt like I was reading about myself and my own family. Highly recommend it!

4.5 stars! As a Memphis native, this was a very interesting read. I’m glad I listened to the audio version because it also included some voice memos from Lisa Marie that added a little extra touch. They did a great job with the audiobook!
