This was really enjoyable! It was a bit over the top at times, but Alexander was able to convey deep emotions in the language and format that was used. It was a really interesting story, with a cool mix of music and grief and family.

Fab YA sort of a rockstar’s son who is trying to deal with an ego and substance addicted father, while trying to find out where he’s really from. Listen to the audio. Genius.

music was amazing. i'm sure someone will appreciate this a lot more than i did. it was good. i don't remember his name but blade's father was infuriating, and i don't know if he ever truly got it. storm was a little aggravating too, or maybe i would have found her more appealing if it was from her perspective over blade's

Rock and rolls meets poetry in this fascinating African American story. Loved everything about this book!

I thought [b:The Crossover|18263725|The Crossover|Kwame Alexander|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1390427593s/18263725.jpg|25723388] was fantastic and was excited to read this book by Kwame Alexander. I did enjoy this one, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I loved the musical aspects and appreciated the writing style that used a mix of content in verse to provide the details of the story, from narration, to text messages, to song lyrics, to dreams. However, this story was just a little too all over the place for me. There were so many things creating conflict and leading in different directions so that the pieces did not come together to feel complete at the end of the book. I would recommend this book for teenage readers with an interest in novels in verse and music.
