I enjoyed this book but it too a long time to get going. I think it was closer to page 300 when stuff finally started happening. Also who ever tells you this book is šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶ is lying, at best itā€™s šŸŒ¶. I have to be honest I wanted more spice.Ā

This book was a fun read for the most part. I picked it up mainly because Iā€™m from Winnipeg and the title caught my eye. I was surprised to find I enjoyed it. The pacing was weird and I gotĀ  annoyed with how often Aiden was referred to as ā€œthe big guyā€ or his wall of Winnipeg nickname, like, we get it, heā€™s huge. Three stars because it was mostly enjoyable but I almost DNFā€™d because of the spoiler below.Ā

Ā
I was disappointed by the double standard when Vanessa laughed at Aiden getting groped by a fan, which was never addressed. Especially when Aiden later got in a fight with someone for groping her.

I have never felt more seen as a reader. I know, I know, there are A-LOT of authors out there that are able to conjure a character that looks like us all and reminds us of ourselves. HOWEVER, Van was just this perfect little combination of every niche imaginable and I loved her. As always with these kitschy romance novels the ending felt rushed but in this case it was okay because we were teased with a slow burn the whole damn time. The characters mesh well with one another and the prose is easy to read, Iā€™d recommend it to someone who was a fan of these kinds of books for sure. I also see myself reading more from Zapata in the near future.Ā

Iā€™m so disappointed in this book, I had such high hopes. Iā€™ve seen so many people rave about it and the new cover is freaking adorable. But this easily couldā€™ve been 100-150 pages shorter.Ā

The traumatic backstories for both main characters was over the top and with not much payoff for suffering through reading about it.Ā

There were so many opportunities for the main characters to connect and realize their feelings for each other but then weā€™d get a cut scene and then it would suddenly be a week later with no progress in their relationship. It also felt like ā€œwait until marriageā€ was the underlying message here, even though thatā€™s never outwardly said.Ā

Thereā€™s also only so much broody-ness I can handle. Aiden is a complete emotional wall. I mean, I get heā€™s the wall of Winnipeg but this was a lot. He gives absolutely nothing to Vanessa until sheā€™s threatened or encroached upon in some way and even then heā€™s rounding it out by telling her to ā€œshut upā€.Ā

I wish I had known more about this so I couldā€™ve DNFā€™d, but then I had gotten too far and had to see it through to figure out what all the hype was about. I still donā€™t get it.
