this just goes to further prove to me what i already knew
there is no sweet medium with virginia and i
i either scream shout and agonise with her writing or fall asleep out of boredom

both occurred with this book đŸȘšđŸȘ©

read for my diss and i’m finally marking it as ‘finished’ even though i only dipped in and out of it - now that my diss is done i feel like a woolf expert, but maybe i’ll read the book in full one day. she is so wonderful

this is my first virginia woolf read, and i absolutely loved it!! she writes with such purpose, and with a simplicity that makes you truly connect with what she’s writing about. seeing these little snippets of her life, these moments of being, feels like a really good way to get into her other works with more context about her life. kind of worried by how much i understood her, but hey i haven’t drowned myself in the ocean quite yet. 10/10 slay

Interestingly one of my favorite selections of her writing as I’ve read through her works chronologically. Candid and fascinating.

Provides great insight into the origins of Virginia Woolf's life and thought, and on a broader scale, the transition from Victorian to Edwardian values and beyond. A wonderful complement to reading her diaries and/or novels and essays.

Last three essays weren’t my fav but the first two memoirs
<3 really gave context for my favorite novels, seeing how much of to the lighthouse was autobiographical based on her relationship with her parents and how much inspiration she took from her disdain for the atmosphere she was raised in for mrs dalloway. Really cool, personal writings from someone whose fiction I love so much. I’ve also adopted the idea of “moments of being” into my lexicon— I used to call these my “Mary Oliver moments.” Moments when you feel alive and full of clarity and in communion with the world— I love that she calls them moments of Being and I will be explaining that to anyone I ever go on a walk with for the rest of time :-)
